INHERITANCE

……appreciating what’s ours
August 31 Vol 1 No 2

Have you ever wondered why the good guys suffer? He is all you’ll ever want in a nice guy. He is calm, friendly with a charming smile. He speaks so intelligently which is a reflection of his wits. This guy can barely hurt a fly. He does not try to impress anybody, so he lives his life in contentment cutting his coat according to his size. This guy is a Christian who doesn’t join the crowd in doing what’s wrong. He has his own clique of friends with whom he enjoys his leisure. His good demeanor is well known to everybody and one will expect that this translate into a good life-no financial crises, good grades and all that makes for a good life.

But most times that’s not what we see, it’s always the opposite. What we see often times is an average life not better than the guy next door who does all sort of things. His grades are just like the other guy who talks and cheat in the exam hall. Because he is not out to impress anybody he is publicly seen as not in vogue and old fashioned.

This kind of life confuses me the good should live good and not average or bad, but it seems that the bad guys enjoy the same benefits as the good if not even more. Why then be the good guy? What then translates into a good life, a life of success and admiration? I discovered that being the good boy is not enough. It is doing the right thing consistently that assures success.
This statement though simple, yet it’s a complex one. Two words are key in this statement, the first is the “right thing”, second is the “consistently”.
Doing the right thing… “the right thing” is an ambiguous statement because what’s right for me at this time may not be appropriate tomorrow. The right thing
is a relative thing. It is time dependent. When the right thing is done outside of its time limit it becomes a wrong thing. Starting a pure water business in the heart of the rainy season may not be a good biz venture, reading eight hours all night a day before your exams may not be rewarding after all.

The problem with so many people is not that they can identify the right thing; it is doing the right thing when it is most appropriate. What we do most of the time is that we look at the event and try to fix what the right time is. This is speculation; we try to fix the right time based on our experience and people’s advice. The problem is that we can’t see beyond our nose, we don’t know what will happen the next moment. We are short sighted in nature. So, most of our decisions are based on speculations and guess work. ‘…I think it’s high time I got a girlfriend-everybody my age has one anyway”, “I need to start a business on campus-this will help my finances a great deal”, “I need to change my phone- those my status don’t use this kind of phone”. And a lot more. 80% of the things we do are based on our judgment of the environment through speculation. This is always risky. A better alternative to speculation is living by instructions. Taking instructions from the one who truly knows all. His knowledge is not limited. He knows the end from the very beginning. So it’s what the risk going by the instructions of the all- knowing God-Omniscience.
This saves you a lot of brain work, trying to figure out how things will go. When you move, when he asks you to. You can be 100% sure that it is the right decision. It may not seem it actually but it is because the all knowing God said it.

The challenge this throws up, is learning to take instructions from God. How? Does God actually talk to people giving them instructions-?- Yes he does. We’ll talk about that more in later times.
The second word is consistently. This is a challenge as serious as the first. After knowing what is right to do per time, your diligence at doing it consistently is important. Anything that is consistently done becomes habitual, whether right or wrong consistency makes you habitually right or habitually wrong . Do we really have a testimony of doing right at all times? The earlier we began to live consistently, the quicker our achievement of success.

A 4o day journey across the wilderness to cannanland became a 40 year sojourn for the Israelites because they were unstable in their ways. James says, a man that doubt is unstable in his ways, he is like a wave that goes forward and backward. He says let him not think he can receive anything from God.
The earlier living right becomes habitual to us, the quicker and better we’ll impact our world.

Driven By Talent

Ifelt so happy when I was approached to put pen to paper in this edition. For those who are just reading inheritance for the first time, the maiden edition was fantastic. I had a push to move the mountain, think deeper than usual, and do the extra ordinary after reading the maiden edition.

I want to tell you a story I got via the internet some weeks ago. A village was connected to the national grid and everyone was happy that at least democratic dividend is being enjoyed and experienced. Everybody soon connects their house to the power lines and the power authority starts charging them. Several months after, it was discovered that there is a particular person that has not used more than a unit and the authority wanted to find out, how and what actually occurred?

They approached the person and questioned him on how he has been using the electricity. He replied “I use only one bulb in my house. This I use only at night to look for my match box after which I put it off” Ignorance!!!
This is the exact thing that happens to you when you refuse to explore so many potentials you’ve been endowed with. So many people have abandoned their talent in search of another greener pasture which would never be greener than their potential. Let me illustrate my point with this; imagine someone using a blade to cut grasses, though that will get the job done it is going to take months, years and extra energy when compare with someone with the right working instruments.

When you try to venture in another man’s field, you will be treated like an uninvited guest and your effort will not be appreciated. Don’t let the encomium D’banj receives, move you into the entertainment industry. Let your passion and talent move you so that you can stay longer there. You will be frustrated when the challenge of the career comes and it is against your intentions. But you will work against all odds to achieve success when you work for yourself and not someone else.

I know you are not getting this information for the first time, but what have you done with it? Information is useless when nothing is done about it. Think and act.!!!
